Suggest outside window cleaning, washing, trimming the lawn, etc. Most people ,seeing you are sincere, will either give you some jobs to do or make a contribution to your cause. The greatest put-off is when some dude shows up in in $60 jeans, $120 Nikis, and tells people he needs a little money to go see his dying grandma.
